STEM Coloring Pages: 249 Free Printable PDFs

A robot who has lost his bolts. A pulley lifting something far too heavy. A skyscraper going up one floor at a time. STEM colouring works when the machine is doing something — a child will happily colour a crane for twenty minutes if it is clearly in the middle of a job.

Below are 24 pages from our STEM collections, with links to all 249 further down. Every page is a free PDF — click a thumbnail to open and print.

What Counts as a STEM Colouring Page

Most pages sold as STEM are the letters S, T, E and M decorated with beakers. They look the part and teach nothing.

The pages here are about the actual things: machines with moving parts, robots built from recognisable components, buildings with structure you can see, energy that comes from somewhere. A child colouring a pulley is looking at a pulley long enough to notice how it works, which is more than a poster achieves.

The Four Strands

  • Science — volcanoes, weather, earth science, the human body, life cycles. The subjects children ask about unprompted.
  • Technology — robots, coding concepts, circuits, everyday devices taken apart.
  • Engineering — simple machines, pulleys, levers, bridges, skyscrapers, measuring tools.
  • Maths — covered in more depth on the math coloring pages, including colour by number, fractions and shapes.

Using These at Home and in Class

After the question. The best moment for a volcano page is ten minutes after a child asked how volcanoes work. The colouring gives the answer somewhere to settle.

Alongside a build. A pulley page next to an actual pulley made from string and a cotton reel is a better lesson than either on its own.

STEM week and clubs. Pages that need no equipment and no setup, for the sessions where the kit has not arrived.

Early finishers. A tray of machine and robot pages keeps fast workers occupied with something on-topic.

How to Print These STEM Coloring Pages

Every page is a free PDF formatted for US Letter and A4 at 300 dpi. Click any thumbnail to open and print.

Print at normal rather than draft quality. Several of these pages carry fine detail — gears, circuit lines, structural beams — and draft mode breaks up thin outlines.

Questions Parents and Teachers Ask

What age are STEM colouring pages for? The robots and simple machines work from about four. The circuits, energy and skyscraper pages suit six to ten. See the kindergarten and early elementary collections for age-matched sets.

Do colouring pages actually teach STEM? On their own, no — and it would be overselling to claim otherwise. What they do is hold a child’s attention on a diagram long enough for the shape of it to stick, which makes the next explanation land better.

Can I print class sets? Yes — free for personal, classroom and homeschool use. See the licensing policy.

Do you have science pages specifically? Yes — volcanoes, weather, earth science, the human body and life cycles are all covered, and most are included in the sets linked above.
